WARNING: Submerging your hardware in mineral oil will void your warranty. Do this project only at your own risk. Puget Systems is not liable for any hardware problems, or damage to your personal property. Minerial oil is very difficult, if not impossible to clean from your components once they are submerged.

Other items you may need:

Mineral Oil

Available at your local hardware store, farm supply store, or vet clinic. We actually recommend using your local vet! Minerial oil is used as a horse laxative, and as funny as it seems, that minerial oil will be medical grade, ensuring the highest purity. Expect to pay about $10 per gallon.

Aquarium Rocks

Available at your local pet stock, aquarium rocks come in various colors and types. These rocks can be a cheap way to really make your computer look like an aquarium!

TIP: Wash your rocks before putting them in the aquarium! They are often covered in dust and other particles, which can cause your aquarium to look cloudy. Put them in a towel, and rinse them off in a sink, then spread them out and allow them time to thoroughly dry.

Bubble Bar, Tubing, Pump, and Flow Valve

Also available at your local pet stock, bubbles are an essential addon! We recommend a 6 inch bar, and recommend washing it as recommended for the rocks. The flow valve is necessary as we've found it very convenient to be able to control the flow of air. The valve also provides a convenient joint at which you can disconnent your air tubing if you need to work on or move the system.

Cleaning Supplies and Tools

Mineral oil is messy! Make sure you have the following items on hand: a funnel for cleaning filling the system, paper towels to clean up spills and clean your hands, and orange clean to help make cleanup easier.

Hardware you may need:

120mm Fans and Grills

If you add your own radiator, you may wish to increase the cooling power by installing 120mm fans. We recommend the Antec Tri-Cool fans, because you can set them to Low, Medium, and High settings. In addition to the fans, we recommend fan grills, to protect items from hitting the fan blades! The fans can be plugged into the top of the aquarium, into the power socket from the pass through SATA header.

USB / Network Storage

Since it is not feasible to keep optical drives or large amounts of storage on the aquarium system, we recommend a USB DVDRW for OS installation, and network attached storage for your files.
