Additional Cooling Information
Our additional cooling options allow you to either include additional case fans with your system, or upgrade the existing CPU fans. While it is never a bad idea to increase your cooling capacity, it is essential to realize that additional cooling means additional noise. Anytime you have more fans running, your system will be louder.

During the testing phase of our computer assembly, we run your computer at 100% load, which means it is generating as much heat as it is capable of generating. During this time, we closely monitor the temperature of the machine, and if it runs too hot, it is our commitment to do whatever is necessary to remedy the situation, at no cost to you. Because of this commitment, you shouldn't worry too much about additional cooling. It’s never a bad idea to have, but if you’re simply unsure about whether you need it...you probably don't!

Tuniq TX-2 Thermal Compound

 Puget Preferred Part!
If you add this item to your order, we will apply the compound to your CPU before mounting your CPU heatsink and fan. This can result in as much as a 2 degrees Celsius drop over stock thermal compound.

Puget Professional Advice:
Jon Bach (President) Says:
While it doesn't make a huge difference, getting a 2 degree temperature drop with this product isn't shabby at all. I use quality thermal compound anytime I can...because for a few dollars, why not?

Additional 120mm Case Fan

Add extra airflow to your case with an additional case fan. Because of their large size, these fans are both powerful and fairly quiet.

Due to the unique qualities of each system build, be sure to talk to a Puget rep to about the ideal cooling arrangement for your computer. They are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Additional 80mm Case Fan (Antec Tricool)

Add extra airflow to your case with an additional case fan. These fans aren't as powerful as larger models, but some smaller cases have limited space for cooling. We still try to remain conscious of noise levels in addition to airflow, though, and select fans based on both qualifications.

Due to the unique qualities of each system build, be sure to talk to a Puget rep to about the ideal cooling arrangement for your computer. They are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Upgrade to Quiet Scythe 120mm Fan

These fans have been hand selected by Puget Systems for their quiet operations and their pleasing tonal quality (making the little noise it generated less noticeable). The speed of the fan is controlled by PWM (pulse width modulation), which gives the motherboard very accurate control. For this reason, we recommend using this fan on CPU coolers in quiet systems.

Upgrade to Nexus 92mm PWM case fan

The Nexus Pulse Width Modulation fans are able to achieve lower noise levels by ramping up and down depending on the cooling needs of the computer.

Upgrade to Antec TriCool 120mm Fan

These Antec three-speed fans offer different settings to keep your system as quiet as possible while also providing adequate airflow. We highly recommend these fans as an upgrade over generic case fans. Sufficient cooling will help keep your system running smoothly, while quiet operation keeps it pleasant for you, too!

Puget Professional Advice:
Ruben Romero (Production Technician) Says:
Tri-Cool fans are nice when it comes to fan speed adjustments on the fly. With their 3-speed switch you can go between high, medium, and low settings. Up to the medium setting the fan starts to get audible with a decent amount of airflow. I personally use these fans in three different systems at home.

Upgrade to Antec TriCool 120mm Fan (thick)

These Antec three-speed fans offer different settings to keep your system as quiet as possible while also providing adequate airflow. Their thicker profile (about half again as thick as a standard case fan) allows them to move even more air while still remaining quiet. Sufficient cooling will help keep your system running smoothly, while quiet operation keeps it pleasant for you, too!

Case Fans Upgrade Kit

 Puget Preferred Part!
This kit includes the replacement of all 120-140mm stock fans with black Antec TriCool fans. Each fan has a low, medium, and high setting, allowing for good tuning for a balance between cooling and quiet operation. Each case is designed differently and every order is unique. Selecting this option gives our build team the flexibility to make sure that the computer you purchase has the most appropriate configuration of cooling fans.

In most cases this kit will involve at least two, and sometimes as many as four, fans. We won't always put fans in every possible spot in the case - as sometimes the extra airflow is either unnecessary or is not worth the extra noise.

Talk to your rep if you have specific requests for fan placement.

Puget Professional Advice:
Wilson Chau (Customer Service) Says:
I like quiet, so I probably opt for the quiet case fan upgrade rather than the adjustable ones.

Daniel Brown (Customer Support - Lead Technician) Says:
We've had a lot of success with these Antec Tri-Cool fans. They are very quiet on 'low' (although not as quiet as the fans offered in our quiet fan upgrade kit), but can be adjusted up to medium or high to compensate for a high ambient temperature or if you are too lazy to clean all the dust out of your chassis ;)

Note that on 'high' these fans are pretty loud.

Matt Bach (Production Manager) Says:
These fans are my personal favorite. They are nearly as quiet as our quiet fan option, though in a quiet environment the quiet kit fans are noticeably quieter. They do have a 3-way switch that allows you to set them to low, medium, or high which allows for easy tuning when it gets hotter in the summer. On the medium/high setting they move much more air than the quiet fans, so if extra cooling is important, these fans are excellent choices. I use these exact fans to use in my own system at home. These fans are an excellent improvement over most stock case fans.

Passive Notebook Cooler

 Puget Preferred Part!
The Nexus TDD-3000 is a revolutionary notebook computer cooler with heat-pipe technology. The TDD-3000 cools a notebook computer without producing any noise and even without any installation or power usage. Zero electricity needed heat-pipe solution helps to keep your notebook computer at a lower temperature.

Puget Professional Advice:
Jon Bach (President) Says:
If you often use your laptop on your lap, then this is a good way to keep the vents from being blocked. You can also do this with good sized hardback book, but the benefit of this product is that the heatpipes help vent the heat better. This leads to longer battery life, and a longer laptop life in general! Is it worth buying? I'm not sure. I still use just a book myself, but I'm thinking about getting this product to try out.

I'm glad to see these fans in our product line. The Antec TriCool line is well made, and reasonably quiet too. I like the ability to easily switch the fan speed between low, medium and high -- that's why I use the TriCool fans at home. These fans, with LEDs, are great when you have a case window.

Case Fans Upgrade Kit

 Puget Preferred Part!
This kit includes the replacement of all 92mm and 120mm stock fans with quieter models, along with adding any additional fans that might be worthwhile to ensure a well-ventilated system. Each case is designed differently and every order is unique. Selecting this option gives our build team the flexibility to make sure that the computer you purchase has the most appropriate configuration of cooling fans.

We currently use Scythe fans, though as time goes and we discover new, quieter fans the brand may change (it also can vary depending on the size the case needs). In most instances this kit will involve at least two fans, and sometimes as many as six. We won't always put fans in every possible spot in the case - as sometimes the extra airflow is either unnecessary or not worth the extra noise.

Jon Bach (President) Says:
This is a good pick if you are very picky about having a quiet computer, but the fans that come with most of our cases are not very loud to begin with, especially in our Antec cases. It is just a question of whether it is worth spending the extra money to make it a little quieter.

Richard Millard (General/Sales Manager) Says:
These are great fans. That said, the fans that come with most of our cases are already pretty nice quality, so I usually only recommend this upgrade to the most noise-sensitive customers.

William George (Customer Service) Says:
One of the first steps to make a system quiet is to make the fans as quiet as possible. Almost every system needs fans to keep components cool (even liquid-cooled systems), and they can easily be the loudest part of a computer. This kit lets our experienced production team decide what your particular configuration needs in terms of cooling and replace or adjust the fans accordingly. It is worth noting, though, that some cases come with very good fans to begin with; Antec cases in particular are like that, so if you aren't sure if you need these feel free to check with our sales staff.
