Office Software

Puget Professional Advice:
Jon Bach (President) Says:
If you don't specifically need MS Office, you can get pretty much the same functionality for free from Open Office, which you can download from http://www.openoffice.org. In fact, we even offer to install it at no charge!

FREE OpenOffice Suite [NO SUPPORT]

 Puget Preferred Part!
OpenOffice.org is a multi-platform office productivity suite. It includes the key desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suites. Sophisticated and flexible, OpenOffice.org also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office, and the vendor-neutral OpenDocument standard from OASIS.

Not to mention, of course, that it's free. We are also happy to install it for you. This allows you to receive your computer without any need for long downloads and installations. This suite is an alternative to MS Office.

Puget Professional Advice:
Wilson Chau (Customer Service) Says:
This is definately a nice option than getting Microsoft Office. I encourage you to give it a try.

Daniel Brown (Customer Support - Lead Technician) Says:
I use OpenOffice.org regularly, and it works great. OpenOffice.org can open and save most common types of office documents. If you plan to do any publishing or more serious writing work, I would opt for something more robust such as MS Publisher, Corel Word Perfect, or LaTeX.

MS Office 2010 Home and Student (Retail)

 Puget Preferred Part!
2010 Home and Student is unique among the versions of Microsoft Office we carry, as it is retail instead of OEM - so it includes an install disc. That is important, as it is also licensed for use on up to three computers. If you need the core Office applications for several people in your home or business to use this may be the most cost-effective option.

Puget Professional Advice:
Daniel Brown (Customer Support - Lead Technician) Says:
I recommend at least considering OpenOffice.org as an alternative. It does not have all the features of MS Office, but it's gaining popularity and has a big percentage of the most-commonly-used features (including the ability to open most Microsoft Office files). We offer OpenOffice for free.

MS Office 2010 Home and Business

The 2010 Home and Business version of Microsoft's Office suite is a mid-range package, featuring several of the more popular applications but missing some needed by professionals (Access and Publisher, for example).

This is an OEM version, so it does not include an install disc, but one can be obtained from Microsoft if needed for a small shipping charge.

Puget Professional Advice:
Daniel Brown (Customer Support - Lead Technician) Says:
This product does not come with it's original install media. Microsoft will charge you something like $15 for the media and shipping and, in my experience, will take at least 2 weeks to receive the discs once you order them.

MS Office 2010 Professional

The 2010 version of Office's Professional suite is fully-loaded with just about every application available in the myriad editions of Office. This comprehensive version has a matching price tag, but if you need programs like Access and Publisher for your work then this is the way to go.

This is an OEM version, so it does not include an install disc, but one can be obtained from Microsoft if needed for a small shipping charge.
