Welcome!
This thread is for Puget community newcomers and veterans alike to get to know each other better. Feel free to post anything you like about yourself and/or your various alter egos.
I'll get the ball rolling and make some suggestions about things we could share.
So, who is Max Mercury? Well, if you ask a writer named Mark Waid, Max is a fictional superhero in the DC Comics universe, whose special power is being able to harness and control "the speed force" in order to catch villains. In other words, Max can run very very fast.
As for the non-fictional Max? Here's a little bit about me:
1. Some favorite sci-fi books:
I enjoy all sorts of fiction and non-fiction, but in terms of sci-fi, off the top of my head, some favorites are Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Lathe of Heaven," Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," Greg Egan's "Quarantine," and Alexander Key's "The Forgotten Door." The latter is aimed at children, and I first read it as a kid then re-read it as an adult and wasn't disappointed.
2. Some favorite TV shows featuring computers:
Star Trek. Star Trek. Star Trek.
3. Some favorite movies featuring computers:
2001: A Space Odyssey; 2010; Star Trek II, IV; Star Wars V, VI; Silent Running
4. What was the first computer I owned?
An IBM PS/2 50Z. This had an Intel 286 processor running at 10MHz, 1MB RAM, a 3.5" floppy drive, and a 30MB hard drive. It used what was called microchannel architecture (MCA), which made upgrades expensive, but I managed to add a math coprocessor. Since I'm into computer history, I still have the PC, running DOS 6.22.
5. Who in the world of science do I admire?
This would be a long list, but for now I'm going to go with Galileo. Also Gregor Mendel.
So everyone, now it's your turn! Stop in here and tell us a little bit about yourself, and it doesn't have to be related to computers. You can talk about your favorite movies, PC games, board games, card games, music, books, sports, vacation spots, snacks, childhood memories, animals and so on. Be truthful, be creative, tell a whopping tall tale. It's up to you.
Have fun!
-- Max

yeah this is one of the most epic sad stories to me alot of folks hate it but i just can't resist a good story like this one.
That was also the first computer that I built. I have since then gone through nearly a dozen processors and ram, half a dozen mobos, and even more graphics cards.
