    Default Prospects of Tablets, Touchscreens

I'm in the market for something portable, and I've been weighing option and researching what is currently available. I'm considering tablet functionality, but, while I like the idea, I just don't see much on the market without some fatal flaw (Fujitsu seems the most established, but their devices are fairly heavy, lack good GPU options, and I fear customer support from a company with such limited presence in North America; on the slate end of things, the iPad is the only refined product I've seen, but its limitations are severe, platform based, and unlikely to change (for an internet device, no Google docs support, really?)).

The short of it is, I'm much more interested in sticking with Puget, so I have to ask: is there any possibility of adding digitizer options to your laptops? I know kits are available, but I'm wary of kits in general, and wary of installing one myself. Also: have you considered offering a tablet among your laptop options? (I assume this would be difficult, given the availability of generic chassis, but one can always hope.)

    Cheers,

    Walker

    Hi Walker-

I definitely understand where you are coming from in regards to tablet machines. You are correct that offering a tablet option is difficult given the lack of whitebook options for it (which is what we use to build out our laptops). A long time ago, we did over a tablet notebook, but it was back when they first appeared and they weren't built very well. The hinges would get loose pretty quickly and touch screen would loose it's responsive. We quickly dropped that line as I guess the taste has still soured us even though I'm certain that they have improved those function now. In any case, I still don't see us offering a tablet in the near future. I've seen the digitize option before, but that's probably not a route we're willing given (just like you) our wariness of the kits. What if it breaks or doesn't function properly... or worst yet...damages the laptop. We're stuck with getting a new kit that works and new laptop. Not a recipe for success when our profit margins for laptop is small to begin with.

In any case, I do appreciate you looking at Puget and whatever you do decide in regards to your laptop purchase, best of luck. We'll be here if you need us.
