Puget Systems Description

The Katana 3 is a value cooling option, providing a mix of performance, relatively low noise, and an appealing price point. It cools far better than Intel's stock solutions, and even bests other coolers of a similar caliber, but without being much more expensive. Another edge this cooler has has is its size: it is short enough to fit in 4U rackmount cases and some other situations where a larger heatsink would be out of the question.

It isn't our quietest or coolest-running option, but if you aren't looking for extreme performance in either of those areas or you need to fit it in a smaller case then the Katana 3 is a great choice.

Puget Systems Professional Advice
Jon Bach (President) Says:
This is an excellent, quiet CPU cooler. One thing I like about this cooler is that it blows onto the motherboard, keeping the chipset, voltage regulators, or memory cool. We automatically orient the cooler to blow on whatever needs it the most. I really appreciate that versatility.

John D. (Production Technician) Says:
The Katana 3 is a good, compact CPU cooler. It does a respectable job of cooling while keeping the fan speed and noise low. The angled design helps it fit in smaller system cases and directs some air to cool motherboard components. Push-pin mounting makes for easy installation on Intel systems. It does make a bit of noise when the fan ramps up, so a Gelid Tranquillo might be a better option for hot CPUs.

Christopher Crader (Customer Support) Says:
I got one of these for my backup system (my main is still using a stock CPU fan - the embarrassment...) and I love it! It does an excellent job of cooling while being much quieter than the stock unit it replaces. It's mounting is fairly simple for Intel systems, but keep in mind that the unit kind of overlays the push pins a bit, so if you need to remove it for upgrading or something, that can make things a little tougher. A wonderful CPU cooler, though!
