Background on AMD Fusion - Socket FM1

AMD's first generation of processors to combine the functions of a CPU and GPU is the aptly-named Fusion. Because of the combination of functions involved, AMD is calling these chips APUs: acclerated processing units. They effectively combine a mid-range processor, very similar in performance to AMD's Athlon II line, with a Radeon HD 6000-series graphics chip (far faster than the Intel graphics in Sandy Bridge processors). The result is a fine entry-level gaming platform without the need for a dedicated video card. It is decidely slower than other contemporary AMD and Intel processors, but the value available for basic gaming and productivity tasks from getting a CPU and GPU in one has its merits.
