This add-on card provides two Firewire 800 ports along with two additional USB 2.0 ports. USB is already standard on all computers, so the real benefit here is the Firewire 800 (sometimes also called IEEE 1394B or Firewire B) support. Some high-end external hard drives use that connection for improved speed, and it is also common on high-definition video cameras. If you aren't sure that you need this, though, then you probably don't.

If USB is all that you are looking for, we have more affordable methods of adding those ports.

These cards sometimes have compatibility issues with hardware configurations. If we encounter a problem, we substitute to the StarTech brand.
