Western Digital's Caviar Black line of hard drives offer amazing performance for a 7200rpm hard disk, alongside relatively large capacities. These make excellent boot drives, as well as fast storage for things like video editing. In trade the drives make a little more noise than other WD models, but still less than many other drives on the market.

This update to the 2TB model introduces SATA 3, for burst speeds of up to 6Gb/s.

This drive is faster than the green version, but its also a little louder, and you have to be careful about cooling them. As long as you don't stack 2-3 of them together, you should be fine. If you don't have the room to space them out and get some airflow between them, you should consider running the green drives, which are much lower power and cooler running.

These (specifically the 2TB Caviar Black) are the loudest hard drives we sell. Specifically the seek noise (when the drive is actually accessing or writing data) is very noticeable. In a P183 or other quiet chassis it might not be too bad, but in a Lancool K7B or a Silverstone TJ08 or most of our other popular chassis you will definitely hear this drive.
