I run Linux at home so I generally don't feel obligated to have anti-virus software. That said, I have been running this Microsoft 'Security Essentials' package at work for the last few months and I haven't encountered any problems with it.

This package lacks the quirks that some of the other free anti-virus packages have. The latest versions of AVG seem to be a bit more 'naggy' about buying their full version, and Avast has it's infamous 'virus definitions have been updated' audio message that will wake you up at 2 in the morning...

One thing to be aware of is that there is a feature integrated into Microsoft Security Essentials called 'Microsoft Spynet' which is on by default. It's disclaimer is a little worrisome as it basically says, "Yes your personally identifiable information *may* be sent to Microsoft, but don't worry, we won't do anything bad with it."
