CPU Cores and Clock Speed - A Car Analogy

Written on May 31, 2017 by William George

We have published a short video looking at the basics of CPU cores and clock speed using the time honored tradition of a car analogy. Jon actually wrote about this a couple of years ago as well, and of course our Labs department (which I am now part of) does a lot of CPU testing to see how performance of popular applications is impacted by the number of cores a CPU has as well as the clock speed it runs at. This video is designed to be a quick overview for those not yet familiar with how those aspects of a CPU work, and I hope it is helpful and entertaining!

If you are in the market for a new computer, and unsure what CPU or other specs will best meet your needs and budget, check out our selection of workstations tailored to popular applications.
