Additional Notes

A recent customer came to us looking for a Linux workstation with many CPU cores, to use as a development box. The answer was a Peak Quad Opteron, running Fedora, coupled with 128GB of RAM and an AMD FirePro 2460 video card.

This system will primarily be used to work on large C++ projects with hundreds of large files that will be recompiled from scratch multiple times during the day. After some experimentation with the software the customer knew that recompiling would parallelize well, prime for multiple cores.

The FirePro 2460 was selected for its silent, passive cooling operation and the ability to run up to 4 monitors with Mini DisplayPort. The passive cooling will increase the reliability of this workstation class video card.
