This is a PCI-Express x4 card which provides a pair of USB 3.1 Type-A ports. These are the same shape as older USB 1.0 / 2.0 / 3.0 ports, and are backward compatible with older devices without need for adapters.
William George (Marketing Project Manager) Says:
USB just keeps getting faster! The latest version (3.1) supports speeds on par with Thunderbolt and introduces a new connector shape: Type C. Those new connectors are going to take a while to catch on, I think, so for now it looks like PC hardware is sticking with the more traditional Type A plug we are all used to. If you have a device that uses a Type C connection, though, cables will be available to go between the two (just like USB Type A -> Micro USB cables now, commonly used to charge cell phones).
