The GC-Alpine Ridge card from Gigabyte adds two Thunderbolt 3 ports to compatible motherboards. In order to do so it needs a PCI-Express slot and a cable inside the system to the TB header on the board, along with DisplayPort connections from the graphics card if you want to pass-through video output on one (or both) Thunderbolt ports.

The Thunderbolt 3 ports themselves are Type C connectors, and in most cases both can be used at the same time with different devices. In fact, some TB 3 devices even support daisy-chaining. However, we have found that with some peripherals - most notably those designed for use with Mac computers rather than PCs - only one port / device could be used at a time.

Note: Only one OSX Thunderbolt storage device can be simultaneously connected.
