The SQUID 4 x M.2 Carrier Board allows use of four M.2 solid-state drives in a single PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot. Most motherboard only have one or two M.2 slots, if any, so this allows for much greater quantities of PCI-E based M.2 drives within a computer. Each of those drives requires a PCI-E x4 data connection, so in order to get full speed from the drives the slot this is installed in must be both PCI-E 3.0 and wired for full x16 lane connectivity.
This card is half-height and has a cooling fan for the controller on the board itself. Many M.2 SSDs themselves also run hot under load, and can throttle if they reach too high of temperatures. Because of that we often recommend additional airflow when using this board - if that interests you, make sure to select an additional chassis fan on your configuration.
