The GeForce GTX 970M is a MXM-style laptop graphics card, second from the top in NVIDIA's line when it was released in the fall of 2014. It is built around the high-efficiency Maxwell architecture, also used in the desktop GeForce 900-series, but with slightly reduced specs to further lower power usage so that it is suitable for use in mobile computers.

Mobile gaming is what the GeForce 970M it is built for, with a lower price point than its big brother the 980M. As such it isn't as fast as that model, but it still does a good job with keeping frame rates smooth in games, though not always at maximum quality. This variant comes with 6GB of video memory, double the normal amount that NVIDIA requires for this GPU.

Mobile graphics cards keep getting closer to the performance of their desktop cousins!
