Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 [ Rear Ports ][ Schematic ]
The Z68 chipset, which this motherboard utilizes, is a follow-up to the H67 and P67 chipsets that launched with the second-generation 'Core i' line of processors (Sandy Bridge). It effectively combines the strengths of both - onboard graphics from H67 with overclocking capabilities from P67 - while also adding some new features, like SSD caching. Overall the mix of capabilities is not something that everyone needs, but having such a flexible motherboard means it can work well in a variety of systems. This "Gen 3" update adds PCI-Express 3.0 support when used in combination with Intel's Ivy Bridge series of processors (to be released in 2012).
