Form Studios Case Study: Unforgettably Forgettable

Form Studios Logo

Form Studios is a virtual production company with studios in Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles, California – and a sister company, Form Volumes, that specializes in virtual production integration and deployment for outside clients. Originally built around high-end virtual production for film and television, Form Studios operates across three core disciplines: virtual production studio services, motion capture and game cinematics, and live brand activations. They pride themselves on bringing together cutting-edge technology and creative production to craft installations that people want to try, share, and – most importantly – remember.

Virtual Production in Action Recreating a Train Station at Form Studios

With deep roots in traditional production – and in more recent years, virtual production – Form Studios’ president, Shawn Herold, saw an opportunity: a gap in the marketplace that no one was really serving. It was Shawn’s experience and perspective that brought him to the idea that, if virtual production can create immersive experiences for film and television productions, why can’t we utilize it for brands exhibiting at live, in person events, where immersive experiences, engagement, and creating memories is paramount? The answer was clear: of course we can!

We recently spoke with Shawn and talked about both the genesis of this idea and how his creative and technical teams actually pull these experiences off for their clients.

“We’ve taken all of the tools in our toolbox from high-end virtual productions and applied them to live activations at conferences and trade shows,” explained Shawn. “Our team combines LED displays, media servers, motion capture, spatial scans, cinema robotics, and custom software developed by our sister company, Form Volumes – all of the things we do in-studio – to create one-of-a-kind experiences that move people through a trade show booth with purpose. We enable visitors to explore, interact, share, and connect.”

Form Studios places a lot of emphasis on what they call “Attention-Grabbing Experiences.” Shawn continued, “We create immersive setups that immediately draw guests in – whether it’s an LED-powered backdrop, a real-time motion capture moment, or a branded interactive game. Every activation is designed to stop people in their tracks and pull them toward your space. In the activations we design, guests aren’t just watching – they’re participating. We build experiences that let users move, play, perform, or personalize something that feels special to them while reinforcing your brand story.”

The team here at Puget Systems can vouch for that, literally. At SIGGRAPH 2025, Form Studios partnered with us to create one of the most memorable experiences our marketing team has ever created for a trade show. The activation created by Form Studios invited SIGGRAPH attendees to step inside a “Virtual Rage Room” where markerless motion capture technology tracked body movements without the need for physical trackers or suits, allowing attendees to move freely in the activation while their actions were captured in real time. Participants had 15 seconds to swing away at digital objects in a gamified “rage room” environment – an energetic and highly shareable moment of full-performance capture, all powered by an integrated suite of high-end tools.

It was the most talked-about experience at the show! And it was the beginning of a valuable new partnership between Puget Systems and Form Studios.

This experience was also validated and inspired a new business model for Form Studios. Providing virtual production consulting services represents a transition away from owning physical spaces to a service-driven virtual production, motion capture, and robotics consulting model. They are expanding into the Los Angeles area and utilizing strategic partnerships with tech companies like Puget Systems and Unilumin to offer best-in-class technology solutions for their new clients.

Form Volumes, Form Studios’ virtual production integration and deployment company, has already seen early success building out virtual production systems for clients across a number of different markets: major universities, corporate enterprise clients, and even houses of worship. Their strategy of using trade show activations for lead generation through collaborative build-outs has proven highly successful as prospective clients experience first hand the value that Form Studios and Form Volumes are delivering together.

The Puget Systems Partnership: Unforgettably Forgettable

Puget Systems workstations have become an integral component – and an important partner – of the virtual production environments that Form Studios designs for its clients.

Shawn added, “Partnerships are crucial for us at Form Studios, especially those that are not purely sales-based. Many companies we deal with take a more sales-focused approach with us, where the interest is simply selling us their solutions. But we really need more than that from our partners. The real benefit of our relationship with Puget is their representatives’ ability to understand our specific use cases and spec out systems that are truly customized to our needs. That sounds simple, but no one really does that. Puget’s willingness to help troubleshoot high-value client builds, combined with their lifetime support, means that my worries – and my clients’ worries – are completely eliminated!”

“The other key component of all of this is the undisputed reliability of Puget Systems workstations: they just work. It sounds funny, but the extreme reliability of these systems makes them literally forgettable – in the best sense!”

Puget Systems continues to partner with Form Studios, and has become an integral value-add to the virtual production consulting and design services, as well as Form Studio’s live event experiences business. In fact, our two companies are deep into the planning stages of Puget Systems’ most ambitious appearance at the Entertainment Media Tech’s largest conference of the year: NAB 2026 in Las Vegas.
