This is a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, allowing a video card with a Mini DisplayPort output (commonly found on video cards designed to drive 4 - 6 displays) to connect to a monitor with a full size DisplayPort input. It could also be used the other way around, though monitors with Mini DisplayPort are more rare.
