The datacenter-grade E1.S solid-state drives (SSDs) we carry here at Puget Systems offer a combination of high-performance and high-density storage for the latest rackmount servers. E1.S is built to overcome the limitations that M.2 drives have in rackmount style systems, with improved cooling and hot-swapping support. Like other NVMe drives, they connect directly to the PCI Express bus and utilize PCIe Gen5 with theoretical read speeds as high as 12GB/s. Real-world performance is affected by many factors, though, so actual throughput will be lower and depends heavily on the workload and other system parameters. Enterprise-class drives like this also tend to offer slightly less capacity than consumer-oriented models, but in trade have much higher write endurance and thus will last longer in heavy-duty workloads.
