NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 960 is the mid-range offering from the 900-series, and uses the Maxwell GPU architecture. It is almost exactly half of the flagship GTX 980: half the number of GPU resources and graphics memory, but running at a similar clock speed to the 980. The result is a card that is 10-20% faster than the previous generation GTX 760, but uses less power thanks to the highly efficient Maxwell architecture.
In addition to its great efficiency and solid performance, the GTX 960 inherits other features common to the GeForce 900-series line. It has DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0, to enable support for 4K monitors and TVs - though for gaming it generally won't perform well above 1920x1200. It also includes support for CUDA, DX11, and NVIDIA's 3D Vision technology.
This particular variant of the GTX 960 is made by Asus and uses a dual-fan cooling setup, rather than the reference NVIDIA design. This means increased cooling for the card and reduced noise levels, but most of the heat from the card is vented inside the computer rather than being exhausted out the back. It supports up to five usable monitor outputs: DVI, HDMI, and 3 x DisplayPort, and runs at slightly overclocked speeds.
