Mineral Oil Cooled PC

Project Ready DIY Kit for the PC Enthusiast

WARNING: Submerging your hardware in mineral oil will void your warranty. Do this project only at your own risk. Puget Systems is not liable for any hardware problems, or damage to your personal property. Mineral oil is very difficult, if not impossible to clean from your components once they are submerged.

Aquarium and Cooling Modules V3
The aquarium module contains all the parts necessary to mount your computer hardware in the aquarium. It would be the equivalent of the computer chassis. The cooling module pumps the mineral oil through an external radiator, which provides excellent cooling. We have verified adequate cooling with the most extreme hardware on the market at the time we built our test system (Dual Intel Xeon X5677 CPU, 12GB DDR3-1600 RAM, Dual ATI 5870 video cards).

Includes: 

Modded 12 gal. aquarium tank
The aquarium needs some brackets removed and trimmed before it can fit a motherboard tray.

Custom motherboard tray V3
We have designed an acrylic motherboard tray for this exact purpose. Each one is waterjet cut, and includes an aluminum IO panel, motherboard standoffs, and all necessary screws.

Power/HDD LEDs
Since the oil is clear, you can attach LEDs directly onto the motherboard headers!

Power switch
Mounts to the top of the acrylic motherboard panel.

Right angle power cord
To connect underneath the plastic hood, the aquarium computer requires a right-angle power cord.

MagiCool XTREME NOVA 1080 3x3 Radiator
Attached with 1/2 inch tubing to the aquarium, this radiator can easily cool the most extreme setups we have used.

SATA/Power Pass Through
To run non-SSD hard drives outside the oil, this adapter is necessary if you do not have eSATA on your motherboard. It also provides molex power to the fans on the radiator.

2x Submerged Pump w/ 10mm barbs
To drive the oil through the radiator, the dual pumps are submerged in the oil, for quiet operation.




Includes all tubing, adapters, mod work (cutting, soldering, drilling, etc), and assembly. This work is quite extensive, and is not done if you purchase each component separately from our parts store.


Does NOT Include (but you might want): 

Cold Cathode Lights
The aquarium kit has been specifically designed to allow for the mounting of cold cathode lights to the top of the system, shining down into the oil. Mounting holes provide convenient attachment.

120mm Fans
Since there is a wide variation of 120mm fans to choose from, we do not include any with the kits, but rather allow you to order them separately to suit your tastes. The radiator can accommodate four 120mm fans.

120mm Fan Grills
Protect the fan blades, and give a nice visual touch to the radiator with chrome fan grills.

12V Molex DC Power Supply
Provide dedicated power to the radiator fans, allowing you to free up the power port on the aquarium kit to power hard drives.

1/2 inch Quick Disconnect Kit
Connects in line with the tubing to the radiator, and allows the radiator to be easily removed for maintenance or transportation.

Additional SATA/Power Pass Through
Allows a second hard drive to be run outside the oil (there is mounting on the V3 kit for both a 2.5 inch and a 3.5 inch hard drive).
