Background on AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPU
AMD's Threadripper processors are built for heavy multi-tasking and applications that can use multiple CPU cores well. They are the top-end of AMD's consumer CPU line, and their focus is on a huge number of cores, threads, and PCI-Express lanes. The first generation of these processors debuted in 2017 and were built on a 14nm manufacturing process with eight to sixteen cores, base clock speeds in the 3GHz range, and turbo speeds reaching 4GHz. The second generation arrived a year later, in the second half of 2018, and are built on a 12nm process with higher clock speeds and up to 32 cores.
