Intel Core Ultra Baseline Power Setting Main Picture

Desktop processors can often be run at a myriad of different power and speed configurations by adjusting BIOS settings, but with the Core Ultra Series 2 launch Intel has codified two profiles that they consider to be officially supported: "Performance" and "Baseline". With this change, we have decided to make the Performance profile our standard here at Puget Systems - but we understand that some users may prefer to reduce power, heat, and noise by opting for the more conservative Baseline profile instead. This can be ideal for systems where quiet operation is paramount, in a recording studio for example, but it does result in up to 15% lower application performance - especially in heavily threaded workloads like rendering.

Selecting this service option will instruct our technicians to configure the BIOS of your workstation to utilize the Baseline profile, rather than the default Performance mode. If you are unsure whether you want this, please ask your sales consultant for personalized guidance.

Please note that this BIOS configuration is different from Windows power plans. We set the power plan in Windows based on what we find to offer optimal performance for any given platform, which is often either the Balanced or High Performance plan.

Note: This option sets the BIOS to utilize Intel's Baseline profile rather than the default Performance mode, reducing power usage and heat output under full load but also lowering performance by up to ~15%.
