AMD's Radeon series of video cards is being re-branded with the launch of the R7 250 and accompanying versions. This model is a re-packaged 8670, formerly only available as an OEM part, featuring the same core GPU and 1GB of video memory.
There is one major new feature being introduced with this generation, called Mantle. It is a proprietary interface for accessing the graphics capabilities of the card in a faster, more efficient way than DirectX or OpenGL are able to. Like other recent Radeon cards there is also support for Eyefinity, Crossfire, DirectX 12, OpenGL, Accelerated Parallel Processing, the Havok physics engine, and 3D Blu-ray movies.
This particular version of the R7 250, from XFX, is a passive model. That means it has no fan, and so makes no noise - instead relying upon airflow inside the computer to ensure adequate cooling. Because of that and the physical size of the heatsink used this card can only be used safely in a select number of cases. Passive cards like this are great if you want absolutely no added noise, but they do still require some airflow from the case fans in order to dissipate heat properly. They also often have large heatsinks and heatpipes, which can stick out beyond the normal edges of the card - so they may not fit in some small form factor cases.
