Burn-In Process
Any time you use new computer components, you are subject to the risk of manufacturing defects, shipping damage, and many other possible sources of hardware failure. A “burn-in” process stresses the components in a system, so that if they are close to failure, we can make sure they break here – allowing us to fix or replace them before the computer gets to our customer. It is much like the way Boeing puts huge stresses on aircraft wings before flying the aircraft: if the wings have a defect, and are going to fail, they want that failure to happen before the aircraft leaves the plant. So, a burn-in test helps ensure that only hardware without defects leaves our facility.
What exactly do we do? The first test we run is very targeted, with a rigorous memory verification tool that makes sure the proper amount of system RAM is detected and that it functions without error for an extended period of time. This test also hits the CPU pretty hard, and depending on the amount of memory in the computer can last several hours. It is critical to make sure that the RAM is rock-solid before moving on, though, since misbehaving memory can cause a whole host of issues once the operating system is up and running.
Next, Windows is installed and all driver and OS updates are applied. Afterward, we run several benchmarks to collect performance data which we use to make sure the workstation is performing as expected for its particular specifications. Toward the end of that process we use a combination of utilities at the same time, with the specific intention of pushing the hardware to its limits – putting the CPU, RAM, and GPU(s) under heavy load for several minutes to ensure stable operation, before considering the PC ready for quality control. A similar system-wide stress test is run again as part of QC, where we can also monitor temperatures to ensure adequate cooling and power draw from the wall to verify that the included power supply will be able to run the computer safely.

Everything was perfect. Very nice, top notch components, helpful staff. They even upgraded my power supply from 380 watts to 600 watts free of charge. Sure, you could go get a Dell with what seems to be the same specs for a little cheaper but you get what you pay for. My next computer will be a Puget computer and I will reccomend these guys to everyone interested in purchasing a new custom system.

Yeah, am very glad my order (AMD “high-quality heatsink) was in stock and prepared for prompt pickup, very nice. I am disappointed though you chose to charge $13 for shipping an item via UPS that would not have been delivered to me any faster than regular FedEx, or regular US Mail for that matter. Now if all you charge is $13 for delivery of a whole computer, then I’d say that’s a very good rate, but for a single part though . . .

Buyer beware is all I can say… They started out really good, but as with all good companies these days they become “Corporatized” and the downhill trek begins. It starts with the words like “I’m sorry” then it ends with “too bad..” Dell was a good example of this phenomenon.. First they are honest and support is excellent, then they become technically “legal” then they outsource, then they start cooking the books… It’s hard to find good companies out there that are as good as this company was a couple years ago. So good luck, I’m going else where with future purchases.
Response from Puget: I am very sorry to hear that we have lost your future business. For the sake of other readers here, the problem is that for advance replacements of parts, we require a credit card to be submitted for security. It is not charged unless the part is not returned within 30 days. This customer took exception to what he viewed as a lack of trust and posted this feedback in response.

I had a lot of anxiety when I began to look into purchasing an expensive computer from an online company, mostly because I know so little about computers in general. However, I can honestly say that Puget Systems made me feel very comfortable. They answered all of my relentless nagging questions promptly, with great knowledge, honesty, and always without complaints. I would highly recommend using this company if you wish to purchase a computer.

I just wanted to thank you for going above and beyond for my recent order. Things got a bit confusing with the parts supplier and I appreciate how it was resolved! Communication was excellent and I will definitely be doing business with you again.

I am writing to say that I am most pleased with the machine that you built for me. I did have some issues with windows at first it locked on me and neither system restore or any trick I could think of would make it boot up. I had to do a reinstall of windows and many hours of reinstalling my data. I had a backup hard drive and the data on my other computer so after two more weeks I am back in function.

I was shopping for a server, trying to get specific parts put into it, the “big” computer companies laughed at my requests, telling me I don’t have a choice of hard drive brands, etc…
My first communication with Puget ended up with them telling me that they would use any part that I wanted. That hooked me.
My server was built with lightning speed and shipped before I even realized it was finished.
It is a killer machine, I can’t find anything wrong with it at all. The service was incredibly good!
My one request for tech support had someone from Puget calling me back right away, but I had already figured out the answer to me question. I doubt that I will be needing to contact them again, the machine seems flawless. I highly recommend them, and will be buying from them again in the future. Good job guys!

Wanted to share my buying experience with Puget Custom Computers.
Placed my order in middle of October 06. Through email’s with my sales rep Wilson Chau, it was recommended that I should run the new nvidia geforce 8800 series of video cards due out in November 06. I have the 30″ inch Dell widescreen LCD which I plan on using for the sole purpose of high end gaming. I decided to wait, possibly upwards of a month for these wonderous new videocards.
Wilson was very understanding and almost obscenely flexible. He indulged me making some changes to my original order. Never once saying I was taking up to much of his time or he couldn’t do it.
Puget received the 8800 series video cards and my build went off over the course of 2 days. The cards ended up costing more than I expected but the the computer is competively priced.
As of November 17th it has shipped and I’m expecting to take delivery shortly.
Overall Puget Custom Computers solid reputation is deserved. They respond to each and every email, answer all your questions no matter how trivial. And for me, most importantly made me feel comfortable in my purchase decision.
Oh, and as a promise to Wilson: Go MARINERS! World Series Champs in 2007!
