The release of 3ds Max 2021, as well as new CPUs from Intel and AMD, it was time for a new round of hardware testing. This was also a great opportunity to begin building a new benchmark suite to test many of the common actions within 3ds Max such as modeling, simulations and rendering. There has been a lot of changes within 3ds Max as well as with CPUs in the years since our last pass, so let’s see how Max handles now.

After some research, we’ve noticed significantly longer render times with Arnold’s GPU renderer while on Nvidia’s Studio Driver 442.92

Dr. Glaser works as a researcher in the Molecular Biophotonics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. He and his team design, fabricate and deploy optical instruments for clinical applications.

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) technology is designed to provide hardware-based, security-related functions when paired with Windows Bitlocker.

We’ve observed that some photogrammetry applications seem to perform better with lower core count processors, so we wanted to look at whether Hyperthreading and Simultaneous Multithreading could be negatively impacting performance in these programs. Next up is RealityCapture.

We have observed that some photogrammetry applications seem to perform better with lower core count processors, so we wanted to look at whether Hyperthreading and Simultaneous Multithreading could be negatively impacting performance in these programs – starting with Agisoft Metashape.

Intel recently updated their mainstream Core processor series, and since we had tested SOLIDWORKS 2020 SP1 pretty recently we thought it would be good to run these new CPUs through the same testing to see how they compare with other Intel and AMD models.
