HPC Parallel Performance for 3rd gen Threadripper, Xeon 3265W and EPYC 7742 (HPL HPCG Numpy NAMD)

On March 19, 2020 I did a webinar titled,
“AMD Threadripper 3rd Gen HPC Parallel Performance and Scaling ++(Xeon 3265W and EPYC 7742)”
The “++(Xeon 3265W and EPYC 7742)” part of that title was added after we had scheduled the webinar. It made the presentation a lot more interesting than the original Threadripper only title! This is a follow up post with the charts and plots of testing results presented in that webinar.

With Washington state under the new “Stay Home, Stay Safe” proclamation, I have now been working out of my home office for about 4 weeks. And just the other day, this order was extended another 30 days. So we’re in this for the long haul. In the spirit of helping those who are either working from home for the first time, or simply not used to doing so full time, I thought I would share my setup, how I’ve adjusted, and what I’ve learned along the way.

Watching my kids play Animal Crossing, got me thinking about some of my favorite casual, escapist or story-driven games I’ve played on my PC over the past year or so. I launched Steam and was surprised to see how many casual games I’ve enjoyed.
