This is the second system with these specs that one of our business customers has purchased. They originally asked for "the most cores" and "the maximum RAM" we could provide - and with AMD's Opteron processor platform the answer was 64 cores and 256GB of RAM. Linux is the operating system of choice here, as Windows 7 can only utilize two physical CPUs and 192GB of RAM; a server version of Windows would have been required to make full use of this hardware, but Linux can as well with a much lower cost.
To round out the feature set this system supports dual monitors, offers 4TB of storage space, and has front USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and eSATA connectivity. Our client was also concerned about noise level, since this system would be used in an office environment, and we delivered on that front by using a passive video card and quiet Noctua CPU coolers.
