AMD's 3rd Gen Threadripper processors use the new Zen 2 microarchitecture, bringing substantial improvements over the previous models in this family. The Threadripper line already featured very high core counts, and combined with massively better per-core performance, these are very powerful high-end desktop (HEDT) CPUs.
Here is a table showing the core specifications of the two processors in this generation:
|Threadripper 3960X||Threadripper 3970X|
|Cores / Threads||24 / 48||32 / 64|
|Base Clock Speed||3.8 GHz||3.7 GHz|
|Max Boost Clock||4.5 GHz||4.5 GHz|
|L1 / L2 / L3 Cache||2.25 / 12 / 128 MB||3 / 16 / 128 MB|
