Burn-In Process

Burn-In Process

Any time you use new computer components, you are subject to the risk of manufacturing defects, shipping damage, and many other possible sources of hardware failure. A “burn-in” process stresses the components in a system, so that if they are close to failure, we can make sure they break here – allowing us to fix or replace them before the computer gets to our customer. It is much like the way Boeing puts huge stresses on aircraft wings before flying the aircraft: if the wings have a defect, and are going to fail, they want that failure to happen before the aircraft leaves the plant. So, a burn-in test helps ensure that only hardware without defects leaves our facility.

What exactly do we do? The first test we run is very targeted, with a rigorous memory verification tool that makes sure the proper amount of system RAM is detected and that it functions without error for an extended period of time. This test also hits the CPU pretty hard, and depending on the amount of memory in the computer can last several hours. It is critical to make sure that the RAM is rock-solid before moving on, though, since misbehaving memory can cause a whole host of issues once the operating system is up and running.

Next, Windows is installed and all driver and OS updates are applied. Afterward, we run several benchmarks to collect performance data which we use to make sure the workstation is performing as expected for its particular specifications. Toward the end of that process we use a combination of utilities at the same time, with the specific intention of pushing the hardware to its limits – putting the CPU, RAM, and GPU(s) under heavy load for several minutes to ensure stable operation, before considering the PC ready for quality control. A similar system-wide stress test is run again as part of QC, where we can also monitor temperatures to ensure adequate cooling and power draw from the wall to verify that the included power supply will be able to run the computer safely.

I purchased a pc from Puget in september of this year. I had never heard of them until I was in the market for a new pc. I looked at reseller ratings, as I am a firm believer in them. I only deal with companies that have a platinum rating of 9 or better. There I found Puget Systems. The computer they made for me was truly custom, as I was looking for a system with Windows XP Pro and with Windows Vista Ultimate. William helped me to build a machine with swapable harddrives, one each with the appropiate OS. A 3 gig core-duo proc, a couple gigs of fast ram, an 8800 768mg video card with directX 10, DVD burner, and a nice quiet Antec case. They built the machine in a reasonable amount of time, shipped it with the best packaging I have ever seen. The machine is flawless, runs beautifully, and never hicupped once! I have even made use of their support. I talked with James who helped me more than any tech support for any company has ever done. These people bend over backward to help their customers. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to buy from them. As long as their rating stays above 9, I will continue to buy from them. These people are great and a joy to work with. I would recomend them to anyone. Thanks Puget and thanks for listening.

I have never bought anything that did not have a manual until I bought this computer. When I told them about it, they said I should have received one, but they never sent me one. Little things like the default sound being set for earphones was annoying and took unnecessary time to discover. Customer support and machine operation was good.

I recently bought a top-end, air-cooled, gaming computer from Puget. THIS WAS THE BEST SERVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED FROM ANY COMPANY FOR ANY PURCHASE. I know that sounds like an exageration, but I’m serious–and I’m 65 years old; I’ve made a lot of purchases. They absolutely go to exteme lengths to make you more than just satisfied. It is always easy to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about. I’m recommending them to my friends and family.

A friend recommended Puget. Absolutely great experience from start to finish. They turned around a
review and a quote on my custom system configuration during the same weekend. System arrived
in perfect condition (no wonder, with the incredible shipping packaging) and…it just started right up.
Perfect “out of box” experience — way better than anything from the larger computer sellers. An
extra surprise was the box of all kinds of adapters, cables, screws and so on which they felt “might be
useful”, and the custom-created notebook of all the components in my machine. And for all that, the
prices are great, too.

Wow! After doing a bit of research I discovered “Puget.” I can’t emphasize enough how happy I am that I took the time to do this.

My entire experience from start to finish has been amazing. It was hands down the best experience I have ever had purchasing a computer online and this is my fourth time doing so.

Quality component options, informative step by step process from start to finish. The best online computer customization format I have ever experienced. Top notch craftsmanship when building your dream computer.

Puget has earned my business for life!

I purchased a computer from Puget on Jully 11, 2007. The decision to use this company was based soley on the reviews from this site. Well, after receiving some of the best customer service I have ever encountered prior to purchasing the computer I placed the order. I have received the computer and everthing I read and expected was right on. This was one purchase where there were no hassles, promises were kept and the product was rock solid. If you purchase a computer from any place else, you are asking for trouble. Mr. Bach, you have a rock solid company. Thanks.

Companies like this are a PLEASURE to deal with.
Wonderful support and communication, quick service and a well built, thoroughly tested custom product. Not to mention all the small details that only a small company can provide.
Absolutely no problems with hardware, software or Puget’s great staff.
It’s great to see companies like Puget that strive for excellence and not just profits for them and their stockholders; like the Dells and Gateways of this world, to these you’re just another number, and “get in line” if you have a problem.
Would definitely purchase from Puget again, and would recommend their services without reservation.
I’m extremely pleased to say the least.

Puget Custom Computers has built the best system I’ve had and indeed I have several in my network. It’s performance is beyond impressive. From start to finish I’ve been treated with utmost respect and was greatly helped by Wilson Chau. My demands (as a Linux user) have been perfectly matched. In short, this is THE place to buy a computer if you are too lazy to build it yourself. Cheers!!!
