NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Video Card

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-Series | Known Software Issues

NVIDIA is currently in the process of launching their new GeForce RTX™ 50-series graphics cards. Like many of their launches, the various GPU models will be available in a rolling manner, with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 5090 and RTX™ 5080 available in January and the RTX™ 5070 Ti and RTX™ 5070 in February. As is often the case for major hardware releases like this, there are a number of issues and general support that are still being worked on by various software developers.

In this post, we want to list issues with various content creation applications and workflows that we discovered while performing the testing for our NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Content Creation Review. We plan to update this as future RTX 50-series cards are released and as software/driver updates become available that may resolve these issues. However, this is critical information for early adopters of the RTX 50-series, especially as it is being somewhat forced on users looking for a new workstation as the previous generation GeForce RTX 40-series cards are shrinking in availability.

NVIDIA has its own list of application support issues available here: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series Studio Apps Support. That page offers a bit less information as to what the specific issues are but expands beyond the applications we regularly test.

Known Issues

Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve

Issue: DaVinci Resolve (Studio) 19.1 cannot launch with an RTX 50-series GPU. Hangs on the “Optimizing Neural Engine” process.

Fix: ETA 1/30 (as posted by NVIDIA)

Workaround: None

Other Information: BlackMagic provided a pre-release build of DaVinci Resolve Studio to reviewers that works with the RTX 50-series. We expect this build to be made available to the public in the near future.

Adobe Premiere Pro

Issue: Support for 4:2:2 decoding not available (tested up to Premiere Pro 25.1)

Fix: ETA TBD

Workaround: Supported added to Premiere Pro Public Beta on 1/30

Other Information: Previously supported NVDEC hardware decoding is functional. 4:2:2 support is expected soon.

Topaz Video AI

Issue: Built-in benchmark does not work on Topaz Video AI 6.0

Fix: ETA February (as posted by NVIDIA)

Workaround: None

Other Information: Appears to be only an issue with the built-in benchmark, and not with the normal functionality in Topaz AI

V-Ray 6.0

Issue: Low performance in GPU CUDA mode

Fix: ETA TBD

Workaround: None

Other Information: “RTX” rendering mode performs as expected.

OctaneBench 2020

Issue: No support for RTX 50-series

Fix: ETA February (as posted by NVIDIA)

Workaround: None

Other Information: None

CineBench 2024

Issue: No support for RTX 50-series for the GPU test.

Fix: ETA February (as posted by NVIDIA)

Workaround: None

Other Information: Part of a larger issue with Redshift GPU rendering.

Resolved Issues

None at present

Conclusion

As we noted at the start of this post, we will maintain this list as information becomes available. Either to add new applications as we learn of compatibility issues, or to add information about fixes that become available over time.

We want to reiterate that software issues like this are very common for major hardware releases. Generally, most of the issues are worked out even before supply constraints are lifted, but especially for applications where older versions do not function, this can be critical information if you need to maintain backward compatibility with projects from previous software versions.
