Video Card

AMD FirePro 2460 PCI-E 512MB Main Picture

The ATI FirePro 2460 is a multi-display graphics card designed for business environments where reliability and stability are needed. Drive up to four 2560x1600 resolution LCD displays by using only one card slot and driver, or chain multiple cards together in a system for even more screens. Perfect for day traders and other professionals who need lots of work space but don't have heavy 3D demands.

Please note that if you are using adapters with this card (instead of using native DisplayPort connections) you may be limited to a lower maximum digital resolution.

William George (Marketing Project Manager) Says:
This card is very similar to the Quadro NVS 450 in terms of capabilities, but is low-profile so it can fit in some cases where other multi-display cards cannot. It is also about half the price, so unless you strongly prefer nVidia it is a great choice. Make sure you get the correct type of cables as well, to hook up your specific monitors.

Jeff Stubbers (Tier 3 Consulting Lead) Says:
This is a good card choice when you need to support many monitors for tasks like day-trading. This is not a very powerful graphics card. So if you have 3D demanding programs that you intend to run such as CAD / 3D modeling or Gaming, then you would want to choose a more powerful graphics card.

When choosing a graphics card, it is always important to make sure the monitor(s) that you intend to use will have compatible connection types with the graphics card outputs.

Keep in mind that if you use the Mini DP to DVI adapters, the maximum resolution from those DVI adapters will be 1920x1200.

*Important: When using mini DisplayPort-to-singlelink DVI adapters, quad output is divided into two pairs (displays 1 and 2 and displays 3 and 4). The displays used in each pair must be identical (with the same manufacturer and model number) and must be identically configured (with the same resolution).

If you plan to connect high-resolution monitors, then you may want to consider a graphics card with more video memory, such as the Quadro K1200 4GB instead.
Christopher Crader (Customer Support)
Christopher Crader (Customer Support) Says:
One thing to note is that these use mini DisplayPort outputs. This means that a cable will need to be a mini-DisplayPort to normal sized DisplayPort if your monitor doesn't have a direct mini-DisplayPort connection. A bigger deal is this - since these are using mini-Displayport, if you want to use an HDMI or DVI monitor, you're going to be typically limited to 1920x1200 resolution. There are active adapters from DisplayPort to HDMI or DVI that can do more, but they're not often very reliable and the good ones cost nearly as much as some monitors! Make sure you talk to your sales rep about what your displays support, as it's not quite so simple as buying this card and expecting it to support whatever four monitors you want.
