Background on Intel Xeon E5 2600 V4 CPU

Intel's E5 2600 V4 series of Xeon processors are based on the Broadwell EP architecture, and the updated socket 2011-3 for mounting. This brings technology improvements from the enthusiast Broadwell-E series into the server and workstation areas, and combines them with the ability to run two CPUs on a single motherboard.

For the most part this generation is geared toward more cores per CPU, but with slightly lower clock speeds. At the same time, though, performance per clock has been improved - and the inclusion of instruction sets like AVX2 and FMA3 can mean massive increases to processing speed in select applications.
