If you workflow includes significant amounts of RED RAW (.R3D) footage, you might want a workstation that is tailored for that codec. In our testing, we have found that R3D media in particular shows higher performance using the AMD Threadripper platform, which is what we use in this in this workstation. Compared to a similarly priced Intel-based system, this workstation will net you ~10-15% higher FPS for R3D media.
While this system has a wide range of storage options (including NVMe, SSD, and platter drives) and up to 128GB of RAM, do note that this AMD platform does not currently support Thunderbolt. If you need that connectivity, you will need to use our other DaVinci Resolve workstation.
If you are not sure which hardware choice is right for you we recommend reading through the Recommended Hardware section. And as always, don't hesitate to contact one of our technology consultants if you require assistance or a hardware configuration that is not covered by our recommended systems.
